The man who slapped French President Emmanuel Macron this week has been sentenced to four months in prison, the Associated Press reported on Thursday.

The French court's decision comes two days after the man hit Macron during a campaign stop in the Drome region of southeastern France. The man had been shouting in French, "Down with Macronia!"

Video of the altercation on Twitter showed Macron's security team then tackling the man to the ground and pulling the president away from the crowd.

The BBC reported on Wednesday that investigators found a copy of Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf" in the man's home, along with weapons, including a sword, a dagger, and a "collector's rifle."
