Texas, a Republican bastion that in recent cycles has flirted with swing-state status, gained two congressional seats as part of the most recent redistricting cycle and will send 38 members to Congress.
Of the state's congressional races, three in particular — in Texas' 15th District, its 28th District, and 34th District — had national implications, as control the House of Representatives will be decided in such competitive districts. The 34th featured a rare member-versus-member general election.
Republican Gov. Greg Abbott also faced voters in a winning bid for re-election against Democrat Beto O'Rourke, and the state had an intriguing race for attorney general, where embattled Republican Ken Paxton was up for re-election. The cities of Corpus Christi and Austin cast ballots for mayor.
Polls closed in the state at 7 p.m. local time. Given the state has multiple time zones, the first polls closed at 8 p.m. EST and the last polls closed at 9 p.m. EST.
