Live Results: New York votes in congressional and state elections
New Yorkers headed to the polls in one of the most consequential election seasons the Empire State has had in years.
The state elected 26 members of Congress, and given the redistricting and highly competitive national election cycle, eight of those races were tight contests that had implications for control of the House of Representatives.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Senate majority leader, was reelected by voters, as was Gov. Kathy Hochul, who faced a general election for the first time as governor after replacing Gov. Andrew Cuomo following his resignation. She is the first woman to be elected governor of the state.
Voters also approved Proposal 1, which would take on debt to fund climate projects.
Polls closed in the state at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
