Katie Couric includes full RBG quote on Colin Kaepernick in her new book
  • Late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's full comments on Colin Kaepernick are in Katie Couric's new book.
  • Couric admitted to omitting RBG's full comments on kneeling during the anthem from 2016.

The late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was far more critical of former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protests than was previously known, according to Katie Couric's new book.

Earlier this week, Couric admitted that she omitted much of RBG's answer on Kaepernick during a 2016 interview. The full quote appears in print for the first time in her forthcoming book, and was included in a profile of Couric in The Cut by Rebecca Traister.

"It's contempt for a government that has made it possible for their parents and their grandparents to live a decent life," Ginsburg said, according to Couric's recording from the 2016 sitdown. "Which they probably could not have lived, in the places they came from … As they become older they realize that this was a youthful folly. And that's why education is important."

Initially, Couric only included Ginsburg calling Kaepernick's kneeling "dumb" and "disrespectful" in the 2016 interview for Yahoo! News.

Couric explained to Traister why she decided to confess to omitting the longer quote in the first place, and why she then included it in her memoir after Ginsburg's death.

"I think I put it in there because I still question myself," Couric told The Cut. "I mean, I chose to write about it. I wanted to be honest about the conundrum I faced after her team called up and said she didn't understand the questions, that she hadn't been following the story, that she misspoke. Yet she was on the record, and she did answer the question."

Couric's book, "Going There," comes out on Oct. 26.
