Vice President Kamala Harris drove within several yards of a pipe bomb outside the Democratic National Committee's headquarters in Washington, DC, on January 6, 2021, and remained in the building for almost two hours before the explosive was uncovered, CNN reported Monday.

Several sources told the network that Harris arrived at the building about 11:30 a.m. with an official motorcade and entered through the garage, which led to a parking deck near the area where law enforcement discovered the explosive device.

Politico reported earlier this month that Harris — who at the time was the vice president-elect and in the final days of her tenure as a California senator — was inside the building when the pipe bomb was found near an outside bench, but CNN reported additional details of Harris' proximity to the device.

According to the outlet, the device was first probed by the Capitol Police at 1:07 p.m. and Secret Service officials evacuated Harris from the building seven minutes later at 1:14 p.m.

A source told the network that Harris left the building using a different route.

That same day, rioters seeking to stop the certification of Joe Biden's victory over President Donald Trump breached the US Capitol, sending law enforcement into overdrive as officers sought to battle multiple threats in Washington.
