Justice Clarence Thomas is out of the hospital, Supreme Court announces
- Justice Thomas has been released from the hospital, the Supreme Court said.
- Thomas was hospitalized last week with "flu-like symptoms" that were not related to COVID-19.
Justice Thomas Clarence Thomas was discharged from the hospital, the Supreme Court announced on Friday.
The court's brief statement only announced that Thomas was discharged after being hospitalized last Friday with "flu-like" symptoms.
Thomas, 73, is currently the longest-serving justice on the nation's highest court. He missed oral arguments on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week. The court has said that Thomas did not contract COVID-19. Like the other justices, he is fully vaccinated and has received a booster shot.
Outside of his health, Thomas has been in the news due to his wife Virginia Thomas' role in pressuring senior White House officials to find a way to keep Trump in office. The Washington Post and CBS broke a blockbuster report Thursday that Thomas, who goes by Ginni, frequently texted with White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.
"Do not concede. It takes time for the army who is gathering for his back," she wrote to Meadows, on Nov. 6, when news organizations began calling the race for President Joe Biden.
Thomas has not recused himself from any cases related to the January 6 insurrection. Ginni Thomas has said she was at the January 6 rally but went home before the riot broke out.
