Joe Biden said he doesn't think the country "will stand for" overturning Roe v. Wade.- "I mean it's just ridiculous in my view and I don't think the country will stand for it," Biden said on "
Jimmy Kimmel Live ."
President Joe Biden told
"There's a whole range of things that are at stake here when we talk about eliminating Roe v. Wade," Biden told Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," adding that this decision is "just going to be the beginning."
"I mean it's just ridiculous in my view, and I don't think the country will stand for it," Biden said.
A leaked Supreme Court draft opinion showed the court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade in their upcoming decision in a different case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
The draft, penned by Justice Samuel Alito, said the Roe decision was "egregiously wrong from the start."
Biden told Kimmel that he is considering handing down an executive order if the decision is overturned.
"I think if the court overrules Roe v. Wade and does what its draft [says] we'll have to legislate it," Biden said. "We have to make sure we pass legislation making it a law that is the federal government says 'this is how it works.'"
He continued: "I think what we're going to have to do is there are some executive orders I could employ, we believe. We're looking at that right now."
He added that if the decision is overturned and states continue to impose strict abortion restrictions, it will cause a "mini-revolution" that could encourage constituents to vote current legislators out of office.
"We can do this," he said. "This is the United States of America."
