'I don't see myself really staying where I'm at for the rest of my life': Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez speculates leaving House seat in the future

- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Wednesday she is unsure if she is "going to be staying in the House forever," floating the possibility of leaving her seat in the House in the future.
- The congresswoman from New York made the comment in a feature for the cover of the December issue of Vanity Fair.
- "I don't know if I'm really going to be staying in the House forever, or if I do stay in the House, what that would look like," Ocasio-Cortez told the publication. "I don't see myself really staying where I'm at for the rest of my life."
- Ocasio-Cortez, 31, could potentially challenge Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in 2022 or Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2024 for a seat in the Senate. Some have speculated that she could also be a potential White House contender in the future.
- The freshman congresswoman has become both a political and pop culture icon since taking a seat in the House, winning the favor of liberals and progressive voters.
- She said that she doesn't "want to aspire to a quote-unquote higher position just for the sake of that title or just for the sake of having a different or higher position."
- Rather, the congresswoman said she wants to "truly make an assessment to see if I can be more effective."
- "And so, you know, I don't know if I could necessarily be more effective in an administration, but, for me that's always what the question comes down to," she continued.
