House minority leader Kevin McCarthy booed at Trump rally
- In a pre-recorded video, McCarthy joined Trump at a rally in Wyoming in support of Liz Rep. Cheney's opponent.
- Trump supporters booed McCarthy as soon as his video began to play.
House minority leader Kevin McCarthy was booed by supporters of former president Donald Trump booed during a virtual campaign appearance on Saturday, The Independent reported.
The Daily Beast reported that the booing started as soon as the video.
"Hello, Wyoming. I'm Kevin McCarthy," he said before supporters of the former president began booing.
McCarthy was there virtually to endorse Rep. Liz Cheney's opponent, Harriet Hageman.
Hageman is running in the primary against Rep. Liz Cheney. Trump has endorsed Hageman and has been critical of Cheney ever since she voted to impeach him following the January 6 riot. McCarthy has also been at loggerheads with Cheney, who is the vice-chair of the House Jan. 6 committee.
McCarthy has also garnered criticism among Trump supporters after audio of a phone call leaked last month where he said he planned to tell Trump to step down and was critical of the former president.
"I've had it with this guy," McCarthy said of Trump during the phone call. "What he did is unacceptable. Nobody can defend that, and nobody should defend it."
The recording stood in contrast to McCarthy's public support of Trump.
