Georgia prosecutor says more Trump associates will likely be subpoenaed as part of her probe into the campaign to overturn the 2020 election

• Williams this week subpoenaed a number of people close to Trump, including Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said that she will likely issue further subpoenas to people in Donald Trump's inner circle, and did not rule out the possibility of subpoenaing the former president himself.

In an interview with NBC News Tuesday, Willis discussed her ongoing investigation into the campaign by Trump and his allies to pressurize state officials to help his bid to overturn his election defeat to Joe Biden.

"Anything's possible," Willis said, in response to a question about whether Trump himself could be subpoenaed. "We'll just have to see where the investigation leads us."

"I think that people thought that we came into this as some kind of game," she continued. "This is not a game at all. What I am doing is very serious. It's very important work. And we're going to do our due diligence and making sure that we look at all aspects of the case."

A Fulton County Grand Jury this week impaneled to investigate election interference issued subpoenas to several former Trump aides and allies, including his former personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, several former campaign attorneys, and Sen. Lindsey Graham, a key Senate ally of Trump.

In late 2020, Trump and allies pressured state officials to undermine Biden's victory. In a phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger at the time, Trump called on him to audit the election result on the basis of groundless election fraud claims, and "find" more than 11,000 votes for him.

Graham also had two phone calls with Raffensperger after the 2020 election, with the subpoena alleging that he sought to encourage Raffensperger to question absentee ballots in order to achieve a result favorable to Trump.

On Wednesday, Graham said he would resist the subpoena, which he described as a "fishing expedition" and "all politics."

"What do I have to gain from these politics? It's someone who doesn't understand the seriousness of what we're doing. I hope he'll come and testify truthfully before the grand jury," Willis said of Graham's remarks.

Trump currently faces an investigation into his bid to overturn the election by the House Jan. 6 committee, and a separate Justice Department investigation to the Capitol riot.

He denies wrongdoing, claiming he was attempting to address honest concerns he had about the integrity of the election.
