The former roommate of Rep. George Santos compared him to the fraudster Anna Sorokin, who posed as a wealthy heiress to steal from businesses and members of New York's high society.

"George Santos is whoever you want him to be at whatever time you want him to be. It's just that simple. I called him the Anna Delvey of Queens," said Gregory Morey-Parker, speaking to CBS News.

Delvy is the name Sorokin used while enacting her con.

Morey-Parker, who lived with Santos in the early 2010s, said he was unsurprised at revelations that the congressman fabricated parts of his personal, educational and employment history.

"He was a very interesting person. We hit it off right away. He told me once 'if I can get elected to Congress, for just one term, I will be set with a pension and healthcare for the rest of my life," said Morey-Parker.

He added that he knew Santos by a different name when they lived together, much like Sorokin adopted the fake persona of Delvey.

"He never went by George. Never went by Santos. I knew him as Anthony Devolder," Morey-Parker said. Santos has been recorded using the name Devolder at other times in his life.

Sorokin was jailed in 2019 after posing as a billionaire heiress to gain access to New York City's social elite, and steal around $200,000. In reality, Sorokin was a magazine intern whose father ran a plumbing and trucking business in Germany. She was released in 2021 and her story was turned into the 2022 Netflix drama "Inventing Anna."

Santos is facing calls to resign after he was found to have made a series of false claims about his career and background, including that his ancestors were Jews who fled the Holocaust and that his mother died as a result of 9/11.

He is facing investigations over his financial affairs by federal prosecutors in New York, and over allegations by Brazilian authorities that he used a stolen checkbook.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has resisted calls to take action against Santos, instead handing him several committee assignments.

Insider has contacted a representative for Santos for comment.
