Former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said she believes that former President Donald Trump was aware of Steve Bannon's plan to overturn the results of the 2020 election before it even began.

"Of course Trump would be listening to Bannon because Bannon was telling him everything he wanted to hear," Grisham told CNN's Erin Burnett on Wednesday night.

New audio recorded three days before the election — and first published by Mother Jones on Wednesday — showed Bannon saying Trump was going to declare victory over President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

"What Trump's going to do is just declare victory," Bannon said on October 31, 2020, according to the audio. "Right. He's going to declare victory. But that doesn't mean he's the winner. He's just going to say he's the winner."

Grisham told Burnett that she believes Trump was in on the plan.

"We know now from all of this testimony ... Trump will just keep saying 'no' to people until he finds somebody to say 'yes,' and Bannon was doing that in that moment," Grisham continued.

She added that "nothing ever gets done without Trump ."

"Trump knows all," Grisham said. "People don't act. People don't say anything without his blessing."

"The fact that Bannon said that really makes me believe that Trump said that to Bannon, that they discussed it, and that Trump was well aware and planning to do exactly what happened."

It is still unclear whether Bannon will testify before the January 6 committee, as it has been made clear his last-ditch effort to comply is only an attempt to avoid criminal liability for initially ignoring his subpoena.
