A lawyer for former President Donald Trump said FBI agents took around 12 boxes from his Florida Mar-a-Lago home in their Monday raid.

Christina Bobb told The Washington Post and Politico on Tuesday that around a dozen boxes were seized.

She told Politico that agents searched multiple areas of the property, and told the Post that agents took around a dozen boxes that had been in the resort's basement storage area.

The Post cited sources who said that the search was conducted because federal agents thought Trump had kept some presidential records in the resort, though they are legally government property under the Presidential Records Act.

Bobb told the Post that the search warrant suggested the investigation was looking at whether there was any violation of laws around classified material.

It is not clear what was in the boxes that were taken on Monday.

In January, Trump returned 15 boxes of material to the National Archives and Records Administration after he was told to give them back, the body said.

The Department of Justice then said that some documents in those boxes were marked as "national security information."

But the Post reported that officials thought he did not return all the materials, and that his team was not being truthful about what materials they had.

Bobb told the Post that Trump lawyers had been talking to the Justice Department in the spring about materials in Mar-a-Lago, and that Trump's team had searched the resort and handed over material that might fall under the Presidential Records Act.
