- Donald Trump Jr. held a packed indoor campaign rally in Panama City Beach, Florida, on Thursday.
- Dozens of people in the audience were filmed standing shoulder to shoulder, with few wearing masks — going against public-health guidance on social distancing.
- The rally took place a week after President Donald Trump tested positive for the coronavirus. He is isolating at the White House but has said he hopes to speak at a rally on Saturday.
Donald Trump Jr. held a packed, indoor rally in Panama City Beach, Florida, on Thursday, with footage showing the crowd standing shoulder to shoulder and few wearing masks.
The rally, which took place in a Holiday Inn hotel, came one week after President Donald Trump tested positive for the coronavirus.
The president spent three nights hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and then returned to the White House on Monday.
In total, at least 34 people within Trump's orbit have tested positive for the coronavirus in recent days, according to an internal government memo that was leaked to ABC News.
Yet the Trump campaign doesn't seem to be changing how it holds campaign rallies.
While other campaign events held Thursday — including one in the parking lot of a towing company in Tampa — were outdoors, according to the Tampa Bay Times, the Panama City Beach rally was indoors.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported that more than 100 people attended that event.
To stem the spread of the coronavirus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has advised people to wear face coverings and stay at least 6 feet away from people outside their household and to regularly wash their hands for at least 20 seconds.
Florida's agriculture commissioner, Nikki Fried, a Democrat, criticized Donald Trump Jr.'s indoor rally on Twitter, saying: "As a leader in this state, I don't care about what party you're in or what candidate you vote for, just wear a damn mask! You're putting everyone in that room and their families in danger."
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.
Trump, who is thought to remain sick with COVID-19, is preparing to return to the campaign trail. He told the Fox News anchor Sean Hannity on Thursday night that he planned to speak at a campaign event in Florida on Saturday and in Pennsylvania on Sunday.
Jason Miller, a senior advisor to Trump's campaign, said last week that campaign-rally protocol would not change in light of the president's diagnosis.
