Some Department of Justice and FBI officials are arguing that the FBI should explain its raid on former President Donald Trump's Florida Mar-a-Lago report, CNN reported.

They argued within the Department of Justice and FBI that the lack of statements or explanation hurt the two bodies, and is not in the public interest, CNN reported.

This is partly because Trump and his allies have been so vocal about the search, per CNN.

Trump has heavily criticized the raid since it happened on Monday. He baselessly said that the FBI could have planted evidence, and said the raid made the US look like a "third-world country." Some experts say he has positioned himself as a victim.

His allies have expressed similar views.

Some of his supporters characterized the raid as the prelude to a "civil war", and some Republicans suggested the FBI should be defunded and destroyed.

His son Eric and Fox News' Jess Watters also suggested the FBI could have planted evidence, offering nothing to back up their claims.

The FBI and Department of Justice have not commented on the raid.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has said that the DOJ does not comment on active investigations for fear of reducing their effectiveness, CNN noted.

But CNN also noted that the FBI often gives press conferences about search warrants.

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday said he couldn't talk about the search, but condemned an apparent increase in threats to law-enforcement officers since the raid.
