Republican Cynthia Lummis defeated Democratic challenger Merav Ben-David in the race for Wyoming's open US Senate seat.

Lummis will become the first woman to represent Wyoming in the Senate, replacing Republican Sen. Mike Enzi, who announced in mid-2019 that he would not be running for reelection.

Lummis is an attorney and former member of the House, while Ben-David is an Israeli immigrant and the current chair of the zoology and physiology department at the University of Wyoming.

In the 2016 presidential election, Wyoming overwhelmingly voted for President Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton by 46.3 percentage points.

The race was projected as "safe" Republican by Sabato's Crystal Ball with the University of Virginia Center for Politics.
