Democrat Craig Greenberg defeated Republican Bill Dieruf in Louisville, Kentucky's mayoral race. Seven other non-major party candidates were also on the ballot.

Polls closed in the state at 6 p.m. local time. Given the state has multiple timezones, the first polls closed at 6 p.m. EST and the last polls closed at 7 p.m. EST.

After serving for three consecutive four-year terms, Democratic Mayor Greg Fischer was term-limited and ineligible to run for a fourth term.

Greenberg, who won the eight-way Democratic primary with just over 40% of the vote, is an attorney and co-owner of Ohio Valley Wrestling. This is his first political office. On abortion, Greenberg — who clinched Planned Parenthood's endorsementsaid he wouldn't use the Louisville police "to be the enforcement arm of Kentucky's extreme abortion ban."

Dieruf, who defeated three opponents in the Republican primary with 78% of the vote, is currently serving as Jeffersontown mayor. He also served on the city council and owned a hardware store for over three decades. If elected, he would have been the first Republican mayor Louisville has elected in nearly six decades. Unlike his opponent, Dieruf said abortion isn't an issue to be handled locally. "I am choosing to leave the decision-making on this issue in the hands of the state and federal elected officials who have the ability in their roles to affect legislation related to abortion," he told a local news outlet.

On the campaign finance front, Greenberg and Dieruf combined spent nearly $550,000 from mid-September to mid-October, according to the Kentucky Registry of Finance. Democrat Greenberg accounted for a bulk of that spending, clocking in at $469,000, and his campaign reported $1.4 million in total receipts. Dieruf claimed $603,000.
