Chris Christie, who's mulling a 2024 presidential bid, says he's primed to call out Trump's vulnerabilities in a campaign: 'Nobody knows Donald Trump better than I do'
- Chris Christie, who's mulling a 2024 presidential bid, said candidates must be willing to call out Trump.
- "Nobody knows Donald Trump better than I do," he told Politico as he sized up Trump's vulnerabilities.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is still mulling a 2024 presidential bid, but he believes that he can publicly call out former President Donald Trump's political liabilities better than anyone else, per a Politico interview.
The two-term Republican governor told the outlet that Trump's vulnerabilities should be "called out and it needs to be called out by somebody who knows him."
"Nobody knows Donald Trump better than I do," he continued.
Christie said that he didn't believe his criticism of Trump would hurt him among likely GOP primary voters, arguing that they're looking for candidates who can make the case for why they should be in the race against a juggernaut like the former president.
"I don't believe that Republican voters penalize people who criticize Trump," he told Politico. "If you think you're a better person to be president than Donald Trump, then you better make that case."
Christie went on to say that Trump had a "bountiful buffet" of issues for candidates to bring up, including the former president's December statement where he suggested that the Constitution could be "terminated" over debunked claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
Trump later denied that he made the statement.
