Capitol police issue all-clear after 'suspicious package' found during January 6 panel at House building where it's being held
- Capitol police investigated a suspicious package during the January 6 committee hearing.
- The package was located at the Cannon House Office Building where the hearing took place.
The US Capitol Police issued an all-clear after about hour spent investigating a "suspicious package" at the House building where the January 6 committee hearing is currently taking place, authorities said Tuesday.
The package was located outside the northwest door of the Cannon House Office Building, the police said, in advising staff and visitors on the premises to stay away from the area. The hearing proceeded as normal in spite of the incident.
Police also previously closed Independence Avenue between Second Street and Washington Avenue in response to the incident but it has since been reopened.
The USCP has yet to identify what the suspicious package was. Fox News producer Kelly Hill tweeted that the package appeared to be an unattended backpack on top of a walker outside of the House building.
"My crew and I were outside the entrance to the Cannon office building to get arrivals and departures of 1/6 cmte witnesses and have now been moved more than 2 blocks away," Phares wrote in the tweet.
