Caitlyn Jenner, the former reality TV star running for governor in California as a Republican, says she's never voted for former President Donald Trump and didn't vote at all in the 2020 election, despite seeking political advice from Trump's former aides.
"I didn't even vote," Jenner, 71, told CNN of the 2020 election in an interview released Monday night. "Out here in California, it's like, why vote for a Republican president? It's just not going to work. I mean, it's overwhelming."
Jenner, who's running a long-shot bid in California's recall election, has voted in just nine of the state's 26 statewide elections since 2000, according to Politico.
Jenner added that she didn't have strong feelings about the propositions on California's ballot last fall, which dealt with issues including voting rights, stem cell research, and affirmative action.
"It was voting day and I thought the only thing out here in California that I worry about, which affects people, is the propositions that were out there," she said. "And I didn't see any propositions that I really had one side or the other. And so it was Election Day and I just couldn't get excited about it. And I just wound up going to play golf and I said, 'I'm not doing that.'"
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, who's faced criticism for implementing strict COVID-19 lockdowns, is expected to survive the recall this fall, and Jenner has just 6% support among Californians, according to recent polling from UC Berkeley and the LA Times.
Jenner also argued that her experience in business, including selling exercise equipment and starring in her family's successful reality show, makes her qualified to be governor.
"I have been in the entrepreneurial world. People think - you've been in show business, think of you as a reality star. Certainly, I've done that, but entertainment is a business, and you have to run that business," she said.
She went on, "But I've also done other things. We sold a billion dollars worth of exercise equipment on television. I've had aviation companies."
Jenner cited the success of her children and step-children, including Kim Kardashian-West and Kylie Jenner, who've amassed fortunes in part by selling consumer goods like clothes and makeup.
