Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden sent his well-wishes to President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump after the two tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Both Trumps announced they had tested positive around 1 a.m., hours after news broke that a top White House aide, Hope Hicks, had tested positive for the virus.

"Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery. We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family," Biden said in a Friday morning tweet.

Vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris also tweeted on Friday that she and her husband Doug Emhoff that she joins the Bidens "in wishing President Trump and the First Lady a full and speedy recovery."

Trump and Biden were in the same room on Tuesday for the first presidential debate at Case Western University in Ohio. Trump, Biden, and moderator Chris Wallace were all at least six feet apart from each other on stage, but none wore masks. CNN reported that Biden will get tested for COVID-19 on Friday.
