Biden condemned Trump's inaction during the Capitol attack as officers on the ground went through 'medieval hell'

President Joe Biden excoriated former President Donald Trump's lack of "courage to act" as law enforcement went through a "medieval hell" to protect the Capitol from a mob of Trump supporters during the January 6, 2021 attack.

In his first remarks since the public hearings by the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol attack began, Biden tore into the three hours of inaction by "the defeated former president of the United States" and praised the law enforcement for saving "our democracy."

"While he was doing that, brave law enforcement officers were subject to the medieval hell for three hours, dripping in blood, surrounded by carnage, face-to-face with a crazed mob that believed the lies of the defeated president,"Biden said in virtual remarks delivered at a conference for the National Organization for Black Law Enforcement. "The police were heroes that day. Donald Trump lacked the courage to act."

"You can't be pro-insurrection and pro-cop," the president continued. "You can't be pro-insurrection and pro-democracy. You can't be pro-insurrection and pro-American."

Biden's remarks came in the wake of bombshell revelations presented in public primetime hearings by the January 6 House panel in the last few weeks. In a hearing on July 21, two former White House aides — both of whom spent most of January 6, 2021, inside the White House — painted a picture of what transpired inside the Oval Office as Trump sat in the private dining room.

New video revealed during the eighth public hearing showed Trump refusing to say the "election is over" as he practiced his remarks the day following the Capitol riot.
