Biden campaign aides reportedly joke about going 'full Hitler' on Trump

President Joe Biden's reelection campaign has increasingly drawn comparisons between former President Donald Trump's rhetoric and that of Adolf Hitler.

It's come as Trump, the overwhelming favorite to be the GOP nominee in 2024, has described political opponents as "vermin" and declared that illegal immigrants are "poisoning the blood" of the country.

According to CNN, younger staffers on the Biden reelection campaign grimly joke that they'll eventually have to go "full Hitler" — directly comparing Trump to Hitler, rather than using phrases like "parroting" or "echoing."

"You have this moment in the first quarter where [Trump] is continuing to go full MAGA extremist now in order to shore up support in his own base," a senior Biden campaign aide told CNN. "While he may be successful in that effort, if we do our job, we'll point out that everything he's saying is extreme and unpopular."

As CNN reported, it's part of a broader strategy to make 2024 about Trump, rather than a referendum on Biden.

Trump, for his part, has claimed ignorance on the historical resonance of his rhetoric — part of a broader pattern he's exhibited when confronted over things he has said.

Nonetheless, he's increasingly leaned into the notion that his second term will have authoritarian characteristics, recently joking that he would be a dictator "only on day one."
