The mother of Ashli Babbitt, the woman fatally shot by police during the Capitol riot, was arrested while demonstrating in Washington, DC, on the second anniversary of the insurrection and her daughter's death.

Capitol Police said in a statement that Micki Witthoeft, 58, was arrested on Friday for failing to obey police orders and blocking and obstructing roadways.

They said that the demonstrators did not have a permit to demonstrate on Capitol Grounds and were illegally blocking traffic and that Witthoeft "asked to be arrested."

A video shared on social media shows Witthoeft and several others repeatedly warned by police officers to get out of the road or face being arrested.

Rather than move to the sidewalk, Witthoeft turns around with her hands behind her back to allow the police to arrest her.

As she is being arrested, those around her can be heard saying, "you're arresting Ashli Babbitt's mother," and later chanting the dead woman's name.

Witthoeft can be heard shouting obscenities at the officers as she is led to a police cruiser.

She was released on Friday afternoon after being given a citation to appear in court at a later date, the police statement said.

Babbitt was part of the mob that stormed into the Capitol building on January 6, 2021, and was fatally shot by police as she tried to climb through the broken window of a barricaded door in front of the Speaker's Lobby.
