A Florida lawmaker bashed Gov. Ron DeSantis after the deadly, racially-motivated shooting at a Dollar General store in the state, alleging that the Republican governor "has done nothing but fan these types of happenings."

In an interview with MSNBC on Sunday, state Rep. Angela Nixon linked Saturday's Jacksonville shooting that left three Black people dead to DeSantis' "anti-woke policies," saying that the presidential hopeful from Florida has "blood on his hands."

"He has had an all-out attack on the Black community with his anti-woke policies, which we know very well was nothing more than a dog whistle to get folks riled up in the way in which it just happened on yesterday," said Nixon, who is Black.

DeSantis' office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Nixon's remarks by Insider on Monday.

The Florida governor has condemned the Jacksonville killings, which the Justice Department is investigating as a hate crime and an act of racially motivated violent extremism.

"Perpetrating violence of this kind is unacceptable and targeting people due to their race has no place in the state of Florida," said DeSantis who referred to the now-dead white shooter as a "deranged scumbag."

Nixon called DeSantis' remarks "hollow statements" that she said made her blood boil during the interview with MSNBC.

"Myself and other representatives, particularly Black representatives, throughout the past few legislative sessions have repeatedly told him what his rhetoric was going to do," said Nixon.

Nixon specifically called out when DeSantis in 2018 warned Flordians not to "monkey this up" by voting for his Democratic Black rival, Andrew Gillum, in the state's governor's race.
