Republicans have controlled the House for almost a year, and it's been nothing short of historic.
But they've made been making history in all the wrong ways.
Kevin McCarthy began the year as the speaker of the House in waiting, ultimately claiming the gavel after more than a dozen successive votes over four grueling days.
After December 31, he won't even be a member of Congress anymore.
It's a poignant coda for a year in which House Republicans undoubtedly made history — but in all the wrong ways.
