 No ease of doing business

In a blog post on the same topic, reputed food critic Sourish Bhattacharya points out how would India boast about ‘ease of doing business’ now? In a conversation with Bhattacharya, one of the promoters of Oberoi Hotels, Gurugram has pointed out that various global leaderships of reputed brands are facing problems with hosting cocktail reception in Gurugram and need to travel more than an hour in the horrific traffic to attend the same. Embarrassment level shot a bit high for many promoters who had planned international events months in advance as they now need to tell the guests that some hotels of similar category has alcohols and some don’t.

Amul coming up with milk bars across highways to build a healthy India is a appreciable step but definitely not the answer for liquor ban. Milk doesn’t earn loads of revenues on the public exchequer and won’t create as many jobs as alcohol.

 Trouble doesn’t come alone

Not just liquor ban, the entire hospitality industry is going through a crisis, with Delhi being the most affected region. It’s a known fact that hospitality industry requires tonnes of clearances and Delhi government suddenly stopped giving licenses without any notice. Then, the roof-top restaurants had to shut shop and so the hookah bars. To top it up, there were meat bans, which have again resulted in a setback for the last quarter of the FY17. Too much of moral policing and decisions without logic are hurting Indian economy real bad.

FYI
With a blanket ban on alcohol sales in Gujarat, drunken driving cases are quite alarming when compared to other dry states.
