President Donald Trump retweeted a Twitter account with the handle @SexCounseling on Monday.
In the tweet, the user praised the president, writing, "The people are happy with President Trump and they see how poorly he is being treated."
The user sent the tweet in response to an earlier tweet the president posted thanking a New York Post columnist for writing a favorable piece.
"Thank you to @mirandadevine of the New York Post for your interesting (and correct) column today," Trump's original tweet said. "'Trump has gained 20 points since Impeachment began in October. He gets 67% on economy. Nonwhite approval of Trump is also at a high: 28%, up 10 points in a year. Nice one, Nancy.'"
The Republican-controlled Senate acquitted Trump last week of the two charges against him - abuse of power and obstruction of Congress - following a bruising impeachment trial.The day after his acquittal, Trump gave a bizarre speech from the White House podium in which he excoriated the "liars" and "leakers" who he claimed were trying to undermine his presidency.
Since then, the president has been in vengeance mode, railing against House Democrats and the impeachment witnesses who testified against him.
The first person to pay the price was Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council. Vindman, a decorated war veteran and Purple Heart recipient, was abruptly fired and escorted out of the White House on Friday along with his twin brother, Yevgeny, who also served on the NSC but was not involved in the impeachment inquiry.
Vindman was given no explanation for his dismissal, but his attorney made it clear in a statement to Insider that the army colonel was forced out as retaliation for testifying against Trump in the impeachment hearings after receiving a congressional subpoena.
Shortly after, Gordon Sondland, the US's ambassador to the European Union and another pivotal impeachment witness against Trump, was recalled from his post.
Bloomberg News reported on Thursday, hours before Alexander Vindman was dismissed, that the White House planned to package his removal as part of a broader effort to slim down bureaucracy in the foreign policy apparatus.
But Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., blew up that flimsy justification when he tweeted, "Allow me a moment to thank-and this may be a bit of a surprise-Adam Schiff," referring to the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and the lead House manager who oversaw witness testimony in Trump's impeachment hearings.
"Were it not for his crack investigation skills, @realDonaldTrump might have had a tougher time unearthing who all needed to be fired. Thanks, Adam! #FullOfSchiff," Trump Jr. tweeted.
