President Donald Trump recommended that Americans avoid any gatherings of more than 10 people on Monday, as the coronavirus continues its rapid spread across the country.

The Trump administration is also suggesting that all Americans begin homeschooling their children, avoid any non-essential travel, and avoid bars and restaurants.

The federal government guidelines aren't mandatory, but they come as many cities and states are shutting down all non-essential businesses, including theaters, bars, and gyms, requiring restaurants limit themselves to delivery and take-out, and prohibiting gatherings over 50 or 500 people.

Public schools are also being shuttered by various states across the country.

"We'd much rather be ahead of the curve than behind it," Trump said at a Monday White House briefing. "Each and every one of us has a critical role to play in stopping the spread and transmission of the virus."
