The UK government has urged Donald Trump to step back from outright war with Iran, warning that further conflict in the region is "in none of our interests."
UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said in a statement on Friday that while the UK "recognised the aggressive threat posed by the Iranian Quds force led by Qasem Soleimani... we urge all parties to de-escalate."
He added that "Further conflict is in none of our interests."
Iran on Friday threatened "harsh retaliation after the US military said on Thursday that it had killed Iran's elite Quds force commander, Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, in an airstrike directed by President Donald Trump.
The UK, along with the rest of the European Union, has been active in championing the multilateral nuclear deal with the Iran government and has previously criticised Trump's decision to pull out from the deal.
