The anonymous senior White House official behind the book "A Warning" said on a forum that there is "no doubt in my mind" that Trump demanded quid pro quo from Ukraine "in order to disrupt the 2020 election."
The senior Trump administration official, who also anonymously authored an explosive op-ed in The New York Times, hosted an AMA (or "ask me anything" interview) on the internet forum Reddit.
In a thread, the author, dubbed "Anonymous," not only said they were sure that Trump withheld military aid to Ukraine in exchange for an investigation into a political opponent, but that "everyone in the White House, including the president himself," understood that as well.
"Now the question is whether it rises to the level of 'high crimes and misdemeanors,'" Anonymous wrote in the Reddit thread. "I personally think that it now does."
The anonymous author went on to say that they do not "cheer on" Trump's potential impeachment, writing that, at the outset of the impeachment inquiry, they believed in reserving judgement "until the facts were on the table."
"Impeachment is a sobering, last-resort process for holding the commander in chief accountable, not something to be undertaken because we think the President's tweets are vile and his rhetoric is ugly," Anonymous wrote in the thread. "We politicize this at our own peril. If Congress goes about it the wrong way, impeachment will further divide our nation."
Anonymous also wrote that they believe there are more potential whistleblowers because "many people have witnessed the president's corruption." The author added that the bravery of the two intel whistleblowers and witnesses testifying in the ongoing impeachment inquiry will compel them to come forward.
"They are hesitant to speak up because they see what he does to his critics," Anonymous wrote. "The anonymous intelligence community whistleblower, and the brave public servants testifying before Congress, will convince them to be on the right side of history.
