When the winter session of the 17th Parliament of India concluded today, the two houses had passed a significant number of bills out of the total number of 47 bills passed in both houses during the year 2019. In total, the year 2019 saw 59 bills being introduced and 47 of them successfully passed on the whole. Also, there are some other interesting facts and figures about the recently concluded parliamentary winter session that are worth exploring.

Productivity at Lok Sabha Vs Rajya Sabha

Stats published in the official website of the parliamentary activities, the Lok Sabha productivity during the winter session just concluded is rated as 114 percent. On the other hand, the productivity of Rajya Sabha was said to be at 94%. These figures are arrived at by taking into account the number of hours they worked and the number of bills they passed.

Before the start of the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged that the winter session which will become the last session in the year 2019 must be highly productive with the best quality debates in which all the MPs must participate giving their best.

He said, "This is the 250th session of the Rajya Sabha. During this session on November 26, there is Constitution Day, when our Constitution completes 70 years. The Constitution inculcates the unity, integrity, diversity and beauty of the country and is a driving force for the country.” He too said that the government was open to discussions and debates on every issue taken up.

This winter session saw the passing of some very important bills that will decide the way some crucial issues will turn in the country. Some of the most important bills passed during the winter session include The Constitution (One Hundred Twenty-Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2019, The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, The Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill, 2019, The Appropriation (No. 3) Bill, 2019, The Arms (Amendment) Bill, 2019, The Industrial Relations Code Bill, 2019, The National Capital Territory of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Unauthorised Colonies) Bill, 2019, The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and others.
