  • "Fox & Friends" co-host Brian Kilmeade was baffled and "stunned" by a Fox News poll released Sunday showing that a majority of Americans want President Donald Trump impeached and removed from office.
  • "I was stunned to see that that's the number because I thought that things were trending away from impeachment, although the president's approval rating did tick up in the same poll, so it's almost like a split personality," Kilmeade said.
  • This week, House Democrats are preparing to take a floor vote on two articles of impeachment against Trump for abusing his power and obstructing Congress.
  • In the Fox News poll, half of the voters surveyed said Trump should be impeached and removed from office, 4% believed he should be impeached by the House but not removed by the Senate, and 41% said he shouldn't be impeached at all.

On Monday, "Fox & Friends" co-host Brian Kilmeade was baffled and "stunned" by a recent Fox News poll showing that a majority of Americans want President Donald Trump impeached and removed from office.

This week, House Democrats are preparing to take a floor vote on two articles of impeachment against Trump for abusing his power and obstructing Congress.

"A new Fox poll came out and I was stunned by this, it says 50% of the country wants the President impeached," Kilmeade said.

"I was stunned to see that that's the number because I thought that things were trending away from impeachment, although the president's approval rating did tick up in the same poll, so it's almost like a split personality," he added.

The Fox News poll, most of which was conducted December 8-11 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, found that when it came to the substance of the impeachment articles themselves, 53% of voters said Trump abused his power, while 38% said he didn't.

On the question of whether Trump obstructed Congress, which was asked from December 10-11 with a margin of error of plus or minus 5.5 percentage points, 48% of respondents agreed he had obstructed Congress and 35% disagreed.

Half of the voters surveyed said Trump should be impeached and removed from office, 4% believed he should be impeached by the House but not removed by the Senate, and 41% said he shouldn't be impeached at all.

Trump has frequently railed against Fox News' polling operation for releasing unfavorable polling results, and did so in a Sunday tweet, falsely accusing the poll of being "inaccurate" and "heavily weighted toward Dems."

It is unclear what Kilmeade was referring to in claiming that public opinion was trending away from supporting Trump's impeachment.

FiveThirtyEight's weighted tracker aggregating impeachment polling shows that the breakdown of Americans who support impeaching Trump and removing him from office has remained relatively stable over the past two months, only slightly fluctuating between 45% to 48% of Americans supporting Trump's impeachment and removal, and 43% to 46% opposing it.

As of December 16, FiveThirtyEight's tracker showed 47.6% supporting Trump's impeachment and removal and 46.2% opposing it.
