Here are 7 politicians who made bizarre and unexpected appearances on reality TV
Ann Widdecombe, “Strictly Come Dancing,” 2010. The former Home Office minister was the surprise package of "Strictly" 2010, making it through to week 10 of the competition with partner Anton Du Beke.
Widdecombe wasn’t the only politician to strut her stuff in 2010. Sir Vince Cable, the Liberal Democrat politician who served as business secretary in the coalition government, appeared in the “Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special.”
George Galloway, “Celebrity Big Brother,” 2006. Perhaps the most infamous political turn on a reality show, the Respect Party leader pretended to be a cat for a task, purring and pretending to lick cream from actress Rula Lenska's hands.
Nadine Dorries, “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!,” 2012. The Tory MP didn’t last long Down Under, becoming the first celebrity to be voted off ITV's reality jungle show. Things went from bad to worse when she was forced to apologise for failing to declare the £82,000 she received for appearing on the programme.
Lembit Opik, “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!,” 2010. Former Lib Dem politician Opik didn’t fare much better than Dorries two years earlier, when he was the second star to be evicted from the jungle.
Oona King, “Dancing on Ice,” 2013. The former Labour MP and new Google diversity guru appeared on ITV’s ice skating show but was eliminated in the third week after injuring her dance partner Mark Hanretty.
Penny Mordaunt, “Splash!,” 2014. The Conservative MP for Portsmouth braved the diving board for ITV’s reality show “Splash!”. She was soon eliminated after mistiming her back somersault.
