Delhi Assembly Election: Polled EVMs/VVPATs To Get Additional Layers Of Security in Delhi Election

Polled EVMs/VVPATs will get additional layers of security during the upcoming general elections for the Delhi assembly, says a press note published by the EC on January 6, 2020. Here is an overview of the different layers of security that will be provided to the EVMs and VVPATs.

Updated security measures for EVMs and VVPATs in Delhi Election:

  • Unique IDs will be assigned for the CUs and BUs and VVPATs which will be randomized within a polling station and shared with the candidates and political parties.
  • CU and BU will be sealed with pink paper seals and the signatures of political parties and candidates will be collected on them.
  • The EVMs/VVPATs will remain sealed before the actual poll starts and the polling agents will also be asked to sign on them.
  • The carrying cases of the EVMs/VVPATs will be sealed after the polling closes and the polling agents will put their signatures on the sealing cases.
  • The machines will be stored in strong rooms and double locks will be provided on the doors of these rooms in delhi election.
  • CCTV feed will be made available to the camping area of the candidates so that they can keep monitoring the strong room.
  • Two layers of round the clock security will be provided to the rooms where the polled EVMs/VVPATs are kept. The inner perimeter will be guarded by the CAPF and the outer perimeter will be manned by the state armed force.
  • On a daily basis, a log-book and videography will be maintained to record the activities of the officers inspecting the two cordons.
