Haryana records its lowest voter turnout in last 5 elections — at 63.55%

• With 1,169 candidates fighting for 90 assembly seats and leaders arriving in tractors and bicycles to voters dancing at polling stations — it was an interesting day for Haryana assembly polls.
  
• Congress chief Rahul Gandhi takes a dig at Bakhshish Singh Virk, the BJP MLA from Assandh constituency in Haryana after the MLA claimed that no matter which button is pressed on the EVMs, the vote would go to the saffron party.
  
• According to data from the Voter Turnout app of the Election Commission, the voter turnout percentage until 6 pm stood at 63.55% in Haryana.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the final voter turnout. Even as the day started slowly for Haryana assembly elections, the voter turnout percentage till 6 pm went up to 63.55% in Haryana. Yet another state which went into polls — Maharashtra — recorded a dismal 45% turnout till 5 pm.

There are over 1.83 crore voters in Haryana, of which 98.7 lakh are male, 85.1 lakh are female and 252 are transgenders. Of this, 3.82 lakh are first time voters in the state.

As many as 1,169 candidates are fighting for 90 assembly seats. And, leaders arrived in tractors and bicycles and voters too danced a polling stations — it was an interesting day for Haryana assembly polls.

The current chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar from the Bharatiya Janata Party is seeking a second term, and arrived dramatically on a bicycle. Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi took a dig at Bakhshish Singh Virk, the BJP MLA from Assandh constituency in Haryana, calling him "the most honest man in the BJP".

Gandhi shared a video in which the MLA claimed that no matter which button is pressed on the EVM, the vote would go to the saffron party.

On the other hand, stone pelting between supporters of the two key parties — Congress and the BJP — was reported from Nuh district in Mewat. Mewat has three Assembly constituencies -- Nuh, Ferozpur Jhirka and Punhana and about 500,000 voters.

Voters at Sanghi in Haryana, which is the seat of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, were dancing at the polling station as they waited for their leader.
