Haryana has been a hotbed for dynasty politics for decades and it’s not different for the Assembly election 2019.

Maharashtra, on the other hand, is seeing a lot more candidates from political families contesting the election this time around. Not just from Congress — the party normally under the lens for dynasty politics — but also from the BJP, Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Some candidates are looking to carry their family legacy forward, like the Hoodas in Haryana and Deshmukhs in Maharashtra. Others are contesting the election against their own family members for the same constituency, like the Mundes.

Here’s a quick look at the dynasty candidates waiting on the results of the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly election today:

Pankaja Munde

There’s a dynasty clash happening in the Parli constituency between the Mundes. Gopinath Munde’s daughter, Pankaja Munde, is following in her father’s footsteps and fighting the election for the BJP. Meanwhile Gopinath’s nephew, Dhananjay Munde is standing from the NCP.

Sandeep Kshirsagar

Another dynasty clash in happening in the Beed constituency. NCP is fielding Sandeep Kshirsagar against his uncle Jaydutt Kshirsagar. Jaydutt was with the NCP earlier but later switched over to the Shiv Sena.

Aaditya Thackeray

Shiv Sena’s Aaditya Thakeray isn’t a dynasty candidate in the conventional sense since this is the first time the family has contested an election. But Aaditya is the son of Uddhav Thackeray, grandson of Bal Thackeray and nephew Raj Thackeray. He’s contending the Maharashtra Assembly election 2019 from Worli constituency.

Dushyant, Digvijay and Arjun Chautala

Three of Om Prakash Chautala’s grandsons are fighting in the Haryana Assembly election.

Three Chautalas are fighting in the Haryana Assembly election. Dushyant Chautala and Digvijay Chautala are being fielded by the JJP from Hisar and Sonepat, respectively. Arjun Chautala, the son of JJP founder Abhay Chautala is contesting the Haryana Assembly election from Kurukshetra constituency for the INLD.

Bhupender and Deepender Hooda

Bhupender Hooda is contesting the election from Sonipat for Congress. He held the CM position from 2004 to 2014 and has also been an MP four times from Rohtak. Bhupender’s father, Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Hood was also a senior Congress leader and served as MP thrice.

Bhupender’s son, Deepender Singh Hooda, is contesting for the party from Rohtak.

Nitesh Rane

Nitesh Rane is the son of Narayan Rane, former chief minister of Maharashtra in 1999. At the time Narayan was with the Shiv Sena, but he later joined Congress. He served as the state minister when the Congress-NCP government was in power.

His son, Nitesh, is contesting from Kankavali constituency — but is being fielded by the BJP.

Ashok Chavan

Prithviraj Chavan

Both of Prithiviraj Chavan’s parents were politicians. The late Dajisaheb Chavan served as a Lok Sabha MP from the Karad constituency from 1957 to 1973. After his death, his wife Premalakaki Chavan took charge of his seat and won four times.

In the Maharashtra Assembly election, Prithiviraj Chavan is being fielded by the Congress from Karad South constituency.

Kuldeep Bishnoi’s son, Bhavya Bishnoi is fielding the election from Hisar.

Inderjit Singh

Rao Inderjit Singh, son of former Haryana Chief Minister Rao Birender Singh, is currently the sitting MP from Gurgaon. He recently ended his family’s long association with Congress and switched over to the BJP.
