Vishwas Nagar state assembly seat falls within the precincts of the East Delhi district of Delhi. In total, there are 70 assembly seats in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. The present ruling term of the government will end on 22 February 2020 and hence all the 70 constituencies of the Delhi assembly will go for polls in February 2020 to select the next set of MLAs who will form the new government post elections for the next five year term. Vishwas Nagar is therefore getting ready for the assembly election. The number of voters in the Vishwas Nagar constituency is 1,86,842. This figure is made of 1,01,689 males, 85,136 females, and 17 third gender electors.

The last assembly elections for Delhi was held in Vishwas Nagar seat in 2015. In this election, BJP’s Om Prakash Sharma won from this seat. He scored 58124 votes. The runner up candidate in this election was AAP’s Atul Gupta. His score was 47966 votes. Om Prakash Sharma won in the 2013 elections also representing BJP. He scored 58124 votes in this election and overtook the INC candidate Naseeb Singh who got 37002 votes.

The Vishwas Nagar assembly seat has existed since 1993. So far, this seat has seen 6 assembly elections. AAP is yet to open its innings from this seat. INC had won this seat three times in three consecutive elections conducted in 1998, 2003 and 2008. The winner in all these elections who became three times MLA for the Vishwas Nagar was Naseeb Singh. In 1993 elections, BJP’s Madan Lal Gawa won from here.
