The last assembly elections in Tughlakabad was conducted in 2015. In this election, AAP candidate Sahi Ram won the seat scoring 64311 votes. The runner up candidate in this election was BJP’s Vikram Bidhuri. He scored 30610 votes in this election. In three consecutive elections conducted in 2003, 2008 and 2013, Ramesh Bidhuri of BJP won from this seat and had become the MLA of this constituency. His vote scores were 41523, 32633 and 34009 respectively. In 2003 elections, the runner up was IND candidate. In 2008 and 2013 elections, the runner up was Sahi Ram of BSP. Later in 2015 elections, Sahi Ram represented the AAP and won this seat.

Tughlakabad state assembly seat falls within the jurisdiction of the South Delhi parliamentary constituency of Delhi. The total number of voters in this assembly seat is 155288. This figure is made of 94813 men, 60465 women and 10 third gender electors. At present the Delhi Vidhan Sabha is ruled by the AAP government. The present ruling term of this assembly will end on 22 February 2020 and hence all the 70 assembly seats of Delhi will see the assembly election polls in February 2020. The upcoming elections in Tughlakabad will decide who will represent this seat in the Delhi assembly as the MLA and vote for the next CM who will rule the Delhi Vidhan Sabha for the next five year period.

Prem Singh Bidhuri of INC won this seat in three consecutive elections held in 1972, 1977 and 1983. In two consecutive elections for the Delhi assembly in 1993 and 1998, the winner from this seat was Shish Pal Singh. In 1993 elections, he represented IND and in 1998 elections, he represented the INC.
