In 2015 general elections, the winner from this seat was AAP candidate Rajendra Pal Gautam. He scored 79777 votes. The runner up candidate in this election was BJP’s Karamvir who got 30956 votes. In 2013, Dharmender Singh of AAP scored 43199 votes and won this seat defeating the INC contestant Veer Singh Dhingan. Earlier in 2003 elections, 2008 elections, and 1998 elections, INC’s Veer Singh Dhingan had won from this seat three times in a row. The runner up in all these three elections was the BJP. In 1993 elections, BJP’s Balbir Singh won this seat.

Seemapuri assembly seat falls within the portals of the North East Delhi parliamentary district of Delhi. The total number of voters in the Seemapuri seat is 1,72,741. This count comprises 92,297 males, 80,426 females and 18 third gender electors. 70 assembly seats of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha will see the general elections in February 2020 as per the announcement by the election commission of India. The five year ruling term of the present Vidhan Sabha will end on 22 February 2020. Hence the upcoming elections will choose MLAs from each of these constituencies to represent them in the new assembly that will be formed post elections.

Seemapuri assembly seat has existed since 1993 elections. So far, this constituency has seen 6 general elections for the Delhi assembly. In all these elections, INC won from Seemapuri three times, BJP had won once and AAP had won twice. The vote score of 79777 scored by the AAP candidate Rajendra Pal Gautam in 2015 elections was the highest any contesting candidate got from this assembly seat so far.
