Rohtas Nagar assembly seat falls within the jurisdiction of the North East Delhi parliamentary district of Delhi. In this assembly seat, there are about 1,91,580 voters including 1,01,777 are males, 89,793 females, and 10 third gender electors. Delhi assembly constituency has 70 Vidhan Sabha seats in total. The present ruling party’s five year term will end on 22 February 2020. Hence the election commission has announced the general elections for all the 70 assembly seats in Delhi in February 2020. The upcoming elections are meant to select the candidates who will become MLAs from each of these constituencies to form the new government post elections.
In 2015 general elections, Sarita Singh of AAP won this seat by scoring 62209 votes against the BJP candidate Jitender Mahajan who got 54335 votes. In 2013 general elections for the Delhi assembly, BJP’s Jitender Kumar won from this seat. He scored 49916 votes against the AAP candidate Mukesh Hooda. This constituency also saw by polls in 2009. The winner of this election was Vipin Sharma of INC who scored 57848 votes against the BJP’s runner up candidate Divy Jayaswal.
From 1977 to 2015, this assembly seat was 9 general elections for the Delhi assembly. In these elections, INC won from this seat 6 times. BJP won from here two times. AAP won this seat once.
