Ex leader of Congress Shoaib Iqbal will fight from Matia Mahal on AAP ticket, Mirza Javed Ali from congress and Ravindra Gupta from BJP will give fight to Shoaib Iabal from Matia Mahal Seat.
Last time, the general elections for assembly was conducted in Matia Mahal in 2015. In the said elections, the winning candidate belonged to the AAP party. AAP’s Asim Ahmed Khan scored 47584 votes and overtook the INC contestant Shoaib Iqbal who scored 21488 votes. Notably, Shoaib Iqbal was elected from the Matia Mahal constituency for the Delhi assembly five times in line from 1993 to 2013.
Situated within the jurisdiction of the Central Delhi district of Delhi parliamentary seat, Matia Mahal is getting ready for the general elections for the Delhi assembly in February 2020. The present term of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha is ending on 22 February 2020 and hence Matia Mahal will go for the said polls to choose the next set of MLA’s for the Delhi assembly in February 2020 along with the other 69 constituencies. The total number of voters in the Matia Mahal seat is 1,15,936 which comprises 61,714 males, 54,212 females and 10 third gender electors.
In 1993 elections, Shoaib Iqbal got 27617 votes and won the seat representing JD. In 1998 elections, he got 28872 votes representing JD and won the elections. His score in 2003 was 25222 when he represented the JD(S) party. In 2008 elections, he represented LJP and won this seat getting 25474 votes. His vote score in 2013 general elections for the assembly was 22732 and in this election, he fought for JD(U). Except in 1993, the runner up candidates from this seat were INC contestants in all the elections conducted right from 1997.
