In 2015 assembly elections, Shri Dutt Sharma of AAP won this seat and defeated Sahab Singh Chauhan who represented the BJP. Their vote scores were 60906 and 52813 respectively. Earlier in 2008 and 2013 elections, Sahab Singh Chauhan of BJP had won this seat scoring 35226 sand 47531 votes respectively. The runner up in both these elections was INC’s Bhisham Sharma.

Ghonda is a state assembly constituency situated within the precincts of North East Delhi district of Delhi. The total number of assembly seats in Delhi Vidhan Sabha is 70. The present five year term of the Delhi assembly will end on 22 February 2020 and hence all the 70 assembly seats including Ghonda will go for general elections in February 2020. The upcoming elections will choose the candidates who will become the MLAs of these seats in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha post elections and for the next government. The total number of electors in the Ghonda assembly constituency is 2,02,787 including 1,11,468 males, 91,309 females, and 10 third gender voters.

Bhisham Sharma had won from this seat in three elections representing INC. he scored 23171 votes in 1998 by polls. He got 25014 votes in 1998 elections. His vote score in 2003 elections was 26785. From 1972 to 2015, this constituency saw 10 assembly elections. INC won from this seat 5 times. BJP won 3 times. JNP and AAP had won from here one time each. The vote score of 60906 votes bagged by AAP’s Shri Dutt Sharma was the highest any candidate had got from this assembly seat so far.
