The last general elections for the Delhi assembly was conducted in this seat in 2015. During this election, AAP candidate Surender Singh won with 40133 votes given by the electors. He defeated the BJP candidate Karan Singh Tanwar who got 28935 votes. The same trend happened in 2013 elections when Surender Singh won from this seat representing AAP and BJP’s Karan Singh was defeated. Their vote scores were 26124 and 25769 votes respectively.
Delhi Cantt is a very popular assembly seat in the New Delhi parliamentary constituency of Delhi. The five year ruling term of the present government at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha will come to an end on 22 February 2020 and hence the Delhi assembly constituencies are preparing themselves for the upcoming assembly general elections in February 2020. Along with the other 69 constituencies, Delhi Cantt will go for polling in February 2020. The total number of voters in this constituency is 132049 in Delhi Cantt seat. The break up is 77910 men, 54128 women and 11 third gender electors.
Earlier, Karan Singh Tanwar was elected for the Delhi assembly from this seat four times. In all these elections, he represented the BJP and became the MLA. In all the four elections in which he won, the runner up candidates were from INC. In the 2008 elections, he scored 23696 votes. In the 2003 elections, his score was 21638 votes. In 1993 elections, he won INC candidate by scoring 23260 votes. In 1983 elections, he scored 9389 votes and won the INC candidate.
