The last elections for the Delhi Vidhan Sabha were conducted in 2015 and the AAP candidate Col Devinder Sehrawat bagged 65006 votes in this election. He became the overwhelming choice of the electors in the Bijwasan seat for the assembly. The runner up candidate of BJP’s Sat Prakash Rana scored 45470 votes. The vote difference between the two was 19536. Earlier, Sat Prakash Rana was the MLA elected in two consecutive elections from this seat.

Bijwasan is one among the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. This seat occurs within the jurisdiction of the South Delhi parliamentary constituency of Delhi. In the Bijwasan assembly seat, there are 186482 voters. This number is made of 104945 men, 81521 women and 16 third gender voters. The present five year term of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha will end on 22 February 2020 and hence the upcoming elections in February 2020 will decide the MLAs from different assembly constituencies who will represent them in the Delhi assembly that will be formed. Bijwasan is gearing up for the general elections with the other assembly seats of Delhi.

Before the AAP candidate Devinder Sehrawat snatched the seat from him, two times, BJP’s Sat Prakash Rana won from this seat and became the MLA to represent Bijwasan. In 2008 elections, he had scored 27427 votes against the INC candidate Vijay Singh Lochav who got 25422 votes. In 2013 elections, he won with 35988 votes defeating the AAP candidate Col Devinder Sehrawat who got 33574 votes. This is a general constituency open for all candidates.
