In the 2015 general elections for the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, the AAP candidate Ved Parkash won from this seat scoring 109259 votes against the runner up candidate of Gugan Singh from BJP who got 59236 votes in the said elections. In the by-elections 2017, Ram Chander of AAP won this seat by pushing aside Ved Parkash who represented BJP at that time. The votes scored by them were 59,886 and 35,834 respectively.

Since the tenure of the present Vidhan Sabha of Delhi ends on 22 February 2020, the assembly constituencies in Delhi will go for general elections in February 2020. Bawana will go for polls along with the other 69 constituencies. The last time assembly elections were held in Bawana was in 2015. There was also a by-election in this seat in 2017. Bawana assembly constituency occurs within the jurisdiction of the North West Delhi parliamentary seat. The total number of voters in this constituency is 302849 and the number is made of 169284 males and 133535 females besides 30 third gender electors.

From 1993 elections, this seat has been reserved for SC candidates. Surender Kumar of INC held this seat over three full assembly terms from 1998 to 2013. The score of 109259 by Ved Parkash of AAP in the 2015 elections is the highest number bagged by any contestant from this assembly seat so far. Before AAP candidate, this seat was held by BJP’s Gugan Singh who won with 68407 votes leading the AAP candidate Manoj who got 42768 votes.
