4:25 pm: Sensex log its worst session in over four years, down over 4,000

As the election result trends became clear that BJP may not win majority on its own, both Sensex and Nifty went into a free fall on Tuesday. Several key stocks saw a plunge of over 5% as the equity benchmark BSE Sensex trading 4389.73 points down at 72079.05, amid significant selling in major blue-chip counters. On the BSE, REC fell by 25.15%, Power Finance Corp. declined by 22.99%, Adani Ports SEZ dropped by 21.26%, BHEL plummeted by 20.94%, and Adishakti Loha decreased by 20.00%, marking them as the top losers of the day. In the Nifty index, only 8 stocks managed to close in the green, while 42 stocks ended in the red. The index closed 1379.41 points down at 21884.5.

4:05 pm: Exit poll only to influence the share market, says AAP MP

"I have been exposing exit polls since last two-three days. Yesterday, I had said that exit poll results were released only to influence the share market, administrative system, Election Commission, it had nothing to do with the reality. What happened to all those exit polls giving over 400, 375 seats (to NDA)?" said AAP MP Sanjay Singh.

3:40 pm: More NDA candidates win in Karnataka

Govind Karjol of BJP wins Chitradurga Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka with a margin of 48,121 votes. JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy wins the Mandya seat with a margin of 2,84,620 votes. Both BJP and JD(S) are fighting the Lok Sabha election as allies after Congress won a simple majority in the state's assembly elections last year. Overall, BJP is leading in 17 seats in Karnataka, while Congress leads 9 and JD(S) 1.

2:45 pm: Victory celebrations break out in TDP camp

Celebrations broke out in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) headquarters as the tripartite NDA alliance headed by the party is set to form the government in Andhra Pradesh with a thumping majority. The TDP-led alliance was leading in 158 constituencies in the 175-member Assembly while the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) was ahead in only 20 segments.

2:30 pm: BJP may not win simple majority on its own

According to the trends on the Election Commission's website, the BJP is currently leading in only 241 seats. This count is 31 seats short of the majority needed and 62 seats less than the number they secured in the 2019 elections. If these trends continue, the BJP will likely depend significantly on its NDA partners to form the government.

2:00 pm: BJP leading in all 29 seats in MP

With the BJP maintaining leads in all 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress is heading for one of its worst performances in the state with leads in zero seats. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who along with state Congress chief Jitu Patwari, was at the party headquarters' monitoring room, left at around 2 p.m.

1:30 pm: BJP leading in all 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi

The BJP is currently leading in all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, according to trends on the Election Commission (EC) website. BJP's Praveen Khandelwal has now moved ahead of Congress' Jai Prakash Agarwal in the Chandni Chowk seat to secure a lead of 27,041 votes.

1:20 pm: NOTA gets over 1.7 lakh votes in Indore LS seat, breaks previous record of Gopalganj

Following the Congress' appeal to electors in Madhya Pradesh's Indore to select the 'None of the Above' option, it has so far got more than 1.7 lakh votes in the Lok Sabha seat, breaking the previous NOTA record of Gopalganj in Bihar. NOTA gives an option to voters to reject all candidates in a constituency. In the 2019 elections, the Gopalganj Lok Sabha seat in Bihar recorded the maximum NOTA votes at 51,660, about 5 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency.

1:15 pm: BJP short of majority, its NDA alliance likely to cross halfway mark with fewer MPs: LS trends

Early trends from counting of votes have thrown up disappointing results for the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections, which appears to be losing heavily in its strongholds of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. Nevertheless, it is expected to form the government with about 290 seats. On its own, BJP appears to be falling below the majority mark with leads in 236 seats. However, significant gains in Odisha, Telangana and Kerala have given some solace to the party after the unexpected losses in the Hindi belt.

1:10 pm: Rahul Gandhi gains lead of over 2 lakh votes in Wayanad LS seat

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appears to have cemented his victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by attaining a huge lead of over 2 lakh votes against his rivals, according to the figures given by the Election Commission. By 12.13 pm, of the 3,77,905 votes counted, Gandhi received 2,25,691 while his nearest rival -- CPI's Annie Raja -- got 96,677 votes. Gandhi had won from Wayanad LS seat in 2019 with a huge margin by getting 7,06,367 votes out of the total of 10,92,197.

1:00 pm: Chandrasekhar increases lead over Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram LS seat

BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar has increased his lead over Congress' Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat by a margin of over 22,000 votes, according to latest Election Commission figures. At noon, EC figures showed Chandrasekhar getting 1,77,269 votes and Tharoor receiving 1,54,309 votes.

12:45 pm: Election trends show moral defeat for Modi: Congress

With latest trends showing the BJP falling below the majority mark, the Congress on Tuesday said it has become clear that it will be a staggering political and decisively moral defeat for Narendra Modi. Exit polls on Saturday predicted that Prime Minister Modi will retain power for a third straight term, with the BJP-led NDA expected to win a big majority in the Lok Sabha polls. Read more here.

12:30 pm: Close contest on all seats in Himachal Pradesh; Congress ahead in three

All six seats in Himachal Pradesh are seeing a close contest, as per Election Commission trends. Congress candidates are ahead in three assembly bypolls, while two out of six Congress rebels who are now BJP candidates are leading from their respective seats in two assembly segments.

12:15 pm: BJP's Kangana Ranaut, Arun Govil and Hema Malini all in the lead

Actor Kangana Ranaut is on the way to become a parliamentarian as the BJP candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi is leading by a margin of over 40,000 votes, according to Election Commission trends. In trends available till 11.45 am, "Ramayan" actor Arun Govil, contesting the Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, is also ahead of his nearest rival by over 40,000 votes. Veteran actor Hema Malini, seeking a third term in Lok Sabha from Mathura, is ahead by over 1.5 lakh votes.

12:00 pm: NDA crosses halfway mark

The latest trends by the Election Commission on 542 Lok Sabha seats show that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has crossed the halfway mark, and is currently leading on 295 seats. The BJP appears to be leading on 238 seats and has already won one. More details here.

11:45 am: Radical preacher Amritpal Singh leading by over 63,00 votes in Punjab's Khadoor Sahib seat

Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh is currently leading over Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira by 63,680 votes in Punjab's Khadoor Sahib seat, according to the Election Commission trends. Singh is fighting the election as an independent.

11:30 am: BJP leading in all five seats of Uttarakhand

The BJP is currently leading in all five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand, according to the Election Commission trends. Ajay Bhatt is leading by 1,16,296 votes in Nainital, Ajay Tamta by 56,292 votes in Almora, Anil Baluni by 30,355 votes in Garhwal (Pauri), Trivendra Singh Rawat by 20,101 votes in Haridwar and Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah by 22,531 votes in Tehri Garhwal.

11:15 am: NDA ahead in Andhra, Karnataka; DMK and Congress leading in TN and Kerala, respectively

Going by the latest trends emerging from the counting of votes, the BJP-led NDA is surging ahead in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. On the other hand, DMK in Tamil Nadu and Congress in Kerala appear to be on their way for another excellent show.

10:45 am: PM Modi regains lead in Varanasi LS seat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has regained the lead in Varanasi LS seat in Uttar Pradesh, and is currently ahead of Congress's Ajay Rai by over 21,500 votes, according to Election Commission.

10:30 am: Rahul Gandhi leading from Wayanad, Raebareli Lok Sabha seats

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is leading in the two Lok Sabha seats of Wayanad in Kerala and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh, with counting of votes for the 2024 general elections still underway. He is leading from the Wayanad seat with a margin of 8718 votes, and from the Raebareli seat with a margin of 2126 votes, according to Election Commission.

10:15 am: NDA ahead in 227 seats, INDIA bloc in 137: EC

As per the Election Commission data as of 9:45 am Tuesday, the BJP-led NDA was ahead with leads in 227 parliamentary seats out of 392 for which trends were available, with opposition INDIA bloc ahead in at least 137. BJP alone was leading on 187 seats and won Surat uncontested, while Congress was ahead in 70 seats.

9:45 am: Sensex, Nifty tank in early trade as initial counting for Lok Sabha polls show mixed trend

Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty tanked in early trade on Tuesday on heavy profit-taking after a massive rally in the previous trade as initial counting for the Lok Sabha polls showed a mixed trend. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently trailing behind Congress's Ajay Rai by 6,223 votes in Varanasi LS seat in Uttar Pradesh, as per the Election Commission.

9:15 am: INDIA bloc leads in 120 seats in early trends; BJP-led NDA crosses 200 mark

The BJP-led NDA on Tuesday surged ahead with leads in more than 200 parliamentary seats out of 350 for which trends were available, with opposition INDIA bloc ahead in 120, according to television reports. More details here.

8:45 am: Maharashtra election results 2024: Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, Supriya Sule leading

Early trends of counting of votes for Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra indicate Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal, and Supriya Sule, daughter of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, are leading from their constituencies. Gadkari, who is contesting his third Lok Sabha polls from Nagpur, has taken a lead over Congress candidate Vikas Thakre, an election official said. Goyal contested his maiden Lok Sabha election from Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat against Congress candidate Bhushan Patil. In Baramati seat, Supriya Sule has taken a lead over her sister in law Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.

Surat, one of the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat, witnessed a unique electoral development as Mukesh Dalal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, was declared the uncontested winner. This victory occurred after all other candidates, including the Congress nominee, withdrew from the race.
