  • That makes India one of the few countries to receive naval guns from the US.
In a bid to boost strategic partnership, the Trump government has agreed to sell naval guns worth $1 billion to India. The guns will help Indian Navy defend itself against warships and anti-aircrafts.

A statement by the US State Department said that the latest arsenal will become a “deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defense.”

India will become one of the few countries to get naval guns from the US. The others in short list include Australia, Japan and South Korea. Under the proposal, as many as 13 MK-45 naval guns will be sold to India, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency in the US. However, the sale hasn’t been concluded yet.

"The MK-45 Gun System will provide the capability to conduct anti-surface warfare and anti-air defence missions while enhancing interoperability with US and other allied forces," the State Department notification said.

The guns will be manufactured by BAE Systems Land and Armaments in Minneapolis.
