  • Lawyers for Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, both Republicans, say President Trump "seeks to disenfranchise millions of Georgia voters."
  • The argument comes in a brief filed on Monday with a US federal court, in response to a Trump lawsuit that aims to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
  • On Saturday, Trump was caught on tape pressuring Georgia elections officials to "find" thousands of votes for him.

President Donald Trump "seeks to disenfranchise millions of Georgia voters at the thirteenth hour," lawyers for the state said in a legal brief, Politico reported.

The statement comes as Trump and his legal team seek to throw out the results of Georgia's presidential election, which President-elect Joe Biden won by over 11,000 votes.

In a Saturday phone call leaked to The Washington Post, Trump urged Georgia's Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find" thousands more votes to overturn that result, raising the prospect of criminal prosecution if he did not.

In the venue of a US federal court, lawyers for Raffensperger and the state's Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, on Monday, rejected the president's efforts to decertify Georgia's election.

"The majority of votes cast were in favor of Joseph Biden," they stated. "The Election is over, the votes have been counted three times, the votes are certified, and the presidential electors have cast their ballots."

A hearing in the case is set for Tuesday morning.
