An ex-NYC police union chief was given a $32,000 punishment for profane tweets directed at city officials and posting the arrest report of Mayor de Blasio's daughter

As he retired on Friday, Ed Mullins, former president of the New York City Sergeants Benevolent Association, was found guilty of two disciplinary charges related to social media violations and docked 70 vacation days, or approximately $32,000 in pay, The New York Times reported.

Trials for the disciplinary matters were quickly arranged by the Civilian Complaint Review Board, an independent watchdog agency, after Mullins filed plans to retire on October 5. That same day, Mullins stepped down as SBA president following a Federal Bureau of Investigation raid of his Long Island home and the union office.

Despite calls from CCRB for his firing, Mullins appeared before the police department's administrative trial court on October 25 and was docked 40 days of pay for profane messages directed at government officials he posted to the union's Twitter account, according to the Times.

In the messages, Mullins called then-city health commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot a "bitch" and New York state Rep. Ritchie Torres, who is openly gay, a "first class whore," NBC News reported.

"There is no tolerance for any member of the NYPD, whether they are a first-year officer or a union president, to use profane language, as Sergeant Mullins did," CCRB chair Frederick Davie said in a press release before the trial.

Mullins also went through a second trial initiated by the police department for tweeting a copy of an arrest report for Mayor Bill de Blasio's daughter, Chiara, who was arrested for unlawful assembly at a George Floyd protest, the New York Daily News reported. Police Commissioner Dermot Shea docked Mullins another 30 days of pay for posting the report.

Because he was never fired, Mullins will still walk away with more than six figures in accrued pay and can apply for a pistol permit and work in a position requiring one, police sources told the New York Daily News.
